Product description: Optical rotary encoder SPF
Precise miniature encoder for integration in operator interfaces and hand-held controls
The SPF series is an optical incremental encoder with a 16 mm housing diameter and a low installation depth of only 10 mm. With three selectable torque variants, the encoder can be matched precisely to the application.
The sleeve-bearing version is designed for speeds up to approx. 100 rpm and is frequently used for manual setpoint adjustments. Here, the torque is available in two levels (standard or increased) to achieve the desired operating feel. The ball-bearing version is designed for higher speeds up to 15,000 rpm and, due to its design, has a very low actuation torque.
The signals are provided as TTL square-wave signals via three channels A, B and Z. A and B are phase-shifted by 90° (for direction of rotation detection), while Z provides one index pulse per revolution for referencing. The maximum usable speed depends on the selected number of pulses (resolution). Higher resolutions (e.g. 4096 pulses/rev) reduce the permissible speed because more edges have to be evaluated per unit of time. For applications with high speeds, lower pulse counts (e.g. 256–1024 pulses/rev) are therefore suitable, whereas at low speeds high resolutions enable fine angular resolution.
Thanks to its compact dimensions and the radial 5-pin connector (0.8 mm pitch), the SPF can be integrated into existing systems where space is limited.
