Product description: Power Resistor M220 - metal film
Thin-film power resistor in TO-220 package for compact power applications
The M220 series is a thin-film metal power resistor for applications that require high power in a compact TO-220 form factor and low inductance. The resistor is integrated in an epoxy-moulded TO-220 package with radial, tinned copper leads, making it easy to integrate into THT PCB layouts and modular power assemblies.
Depending on the type, 20 W, 35 W or 50 W @ 25 °C on heatsink (M220-2 / -3 / -5) are available, each with 1 W without heatsink. With a resistance range from 0.01 Ω up to ≤51 kΩ, M220 can be used both as a low-ohmic shunt or load resistor and in higher-ohmic branches for current or voltage limiting. Resistance tolerances from ±1% (±1% and ±5%) cover typical requirements from tighter tolerance designs to robust standard values.
The low-inductance design with a typical inductance of around 8–10 nH reduces parasitic effects in switching or high-frequency circuits. The temperature coefficient is graded according to resistance value: ±50 ppm/°C for R ≥ 10 Ω, ±100 ppm/°C for 0.1 Ω ≤ R < 10 Ω and ±250 ppm/°C for R < 0.1 Ω. The operating temperature range from −55 °C to +175 °C, a dielectric strength of 2000 VAC and an insulation resistance >1 GΩ support use in electrically and thermally demanding power, measurement and control applications.
For reliable continuous operation, typical load and environmental tests such as load life, humidity exposure, thermal shock, resistance to soldering heat, vibration and dielectric strength are taken into account. The permissible resistance changes remain in the range of roughly ±0.1% to ±1%, supporting stable long-term behaviour even under sustained electrical and thermal stress.
