Thin-film SMD resistors for high power and thermally demanding circuits
The SMD resistors of the CPHV series are designed for applications where high power dissipation and reliable thermal management are required. The design is based on an aluminium nitride substrate with high thermal conductivity. In combination with NiCr thin-film technology, this results in a resistor that maintains stable characteristics even at elevated temperatures while retaining the typical advantages of thin-film resistors, such as low noise and well-defined tolerances.
Depending on the case size, rated power levels of 0.5 W (0603), 1 W (0805), 2 W (1206) and up to 6 W (2512) at 70 °C are available. The series operates over a temperature range from −55 °C to +155 °C and is specified for working voltages up to 100 V and test voltages up to 200 V (depending on case size). This makes CPHV particularly suitable for compact power stages, current limiting and attenuation networks, and other circuit sections where SMD resistors are loaded significantly more than in typical signal paths.
The resistance range from 50 Ω to 30.1 kΩ covers common values for power, measurement and control stages. Resistance tolerances down to ±0.1% enable precise dimensioning without the need for additional trimming. Temperature coefficients down to ±25 ppm/°C ensure that the resistance value changes only moderately over the specified temperature range, so circuit performance remains reliable even under self-heating.
The combination of thermally conductive substrate, robust housing and thin-film technology makes the CPHV series attractive for industrial applications with frequent load changes and elevated ambient temperatures – for example in power supplies, drive and control electronics or measurement systems where power handling and precision must be combined.
